Goulburn and Broken River

The Goulburn River forms the backbone and lifeblood of our region, winding its way through beautiful countryside, native forests and fertile farmlands, bringing life to the rich agricultural landscape which has made the area renowned as Australia’s food bowl.

There are opportunities for nature lovers to enjoy our tranquil waterways with popular pastimes like fishing, boating, walking and relaxing all here to be enjoyed.

Fish, boat or canoe the Victoria Park Lake precinct which backs onto the majestic Goulburn River and the open spaces and towering river red gums allow you to really appreciate the natural beauty of the area.

The rivers are not the only amazing waterways where you can discover our local flora and fauna and get close to nature.  The region’s wetlands include Cussen Park in Tatura, Gemmills Swamp in Mooroopna and Reedy Swamp in Shepparton.  Shepparton is also home to the Australian Botanic Gardens, Lower Goulburn National Park and the Shepparton Regional Park.

Greater Shepparton enjoys a temperate climate, boasting more hours of sunshine per year than the Gold Coast! Summers bring hot and dry weather; spring and autumn are typically warm, whilst cold frosty winter mornings turn in to bright sunny winter days.
